The 2027 Kia EV9 now has its federal fuel economy ratings, and the 501-horsepower EV9 GT is not among them.

Every rating carries over from 2026: the Long Range rear-drive EV9 still leads at 305 miles, the Standard Range model still rates 230 miles, and the two all-wheel-drive versions hold at 283 and 280 miles. The GT, the performance flagship that was rated for 2026 but never reached American dealers, has no 2027 entry at all.

The four 2027 listings were added to the EPA’s fuel economy database on November 3, a week after Kia priced the 2027 EV9 at $54,990 to $71,990 across five trims, Light Standard Range through GT-Line, plus $1,645 destination. That release did not mention the GT either. Kia said the Land trim gains the Nightfall Edition package as standard, which raises its torque from 443 lb-ft to 516 lb-ft, and the Wind picks up black 19-inch wheels and gloss black trim.

The GT’s absence is the second year running that a Kia performance EV has gone missing from the paperwork. The EPA rated the 2026 EV9 GT in September 2025 at 78 MPGe combined and 260 miles of range, and Kia had unveiled the car at the Los Angeles Auto Show the previous November with a promise of 501 hp, 122 hp more than the GT-Line. Two months after the rating appeared, Kia told Car and Driver the GT was "delayed until further notice" because of "changing market conditions," as Electrek and Kelley Blue Book reported at the time. The GT is built in South Korea, while the EV9s sold here are assembled in the United States, which left the imported model exposed to tariffs just as the $7,500 federal tax credit went away.

The same November 3 batch brought the 2027 EV6 into the database, and its four listings also carry over unchanged, from 237 miles for the Standard Range rear-drive car to 319 miles for the Long Range rear-drive model. The 641-hp EV6 GT, which the EPA rated for 2026 at 231 miles, has no 2027 entry either. Kia’s 2027 EV6 pricing, announced on October 26, held all seven trims at their 2026 prices, from $37,900 to $53,000 plus $1,545 destination, and did not list the GT either. The release says the 2027 EV6 is built in West Point, Georgia.

Kia has not said whether either GT will return for 2027, and a car can be added to the EPA’s database at any point in the model year.

The HyundaiHQ Take

Nobody expected the 2027 EV9 to gain range, so the unchanged numbers are not the news here. The news is that two separate Kia documents, a pricing release and now a federal filing, have gone out for the 2027 EV9 without a word about the GT, almost a year after Kia put the car on hold. A delay "until further notice" that outlasts an entire model year starts to look like a decision, and the economics have not moved in the GT’s favor: it would still be a Korean-built import in a lineup that Kia builds in Georgia precisely to avoid the tariff. Kia already lost the EV6 GT this way. If the most powerful three-row SUV Kia has ever built does come back, it will probably need to be built on this side of the Pacific first.
