The 641-HP Kia EV6 GT Sits Out Another Year

The Kia EV6 GT is missing from the 2027 EV6 lineup, which means the 641-horsepower flagship will skip a second straight model year in the United States.
Kia’s 2027 pricing covers seven trims, from the Light Standard Range to the GT-Line AWD, with every price carried over from 2026, and it says nothing about the GT or when the car might come back. The last EV6 GT sold here was the 2025 model, which was built in South Korea rather than at the West Point, Georgia, plant that assembles the rest of the lineup.
The 2027 pricing release of October 26 lists the same seven trims as the 2026 release from May, and the GT was already absent then. Kia told Motor1 in March that "due to changing market conditions, the 2026 EV6 GT will be delayed until further notice," adding that the delay did not affect the other trims. Motor1 tied the pause to the 25 percent import tariff on Korean-built cars and to EV6 sales that were down nearly 60 percent at the time, and Kia has not updated that position since.

What buyers are missing is the most powerful car Kia has sold in America. Kia’s 2025 pricing release listed the GT at $63,800 plus $1,475 destination, the only EV6 above $60,000, with a standard 601 hp and up to 641 hp in GT mode, along with a Virtual Gear Shift function that fakes gear changes with sound, graphics and a pulse of motor torque. The GT was also the one trim left out of the 2025 refresh’s two biggest packaging changes, keeping its charging port in the old location while the other trims moved theirs to the left rear fender, and staying on the Korean line when production of the rest of the range moved to Georgia.
The business case has only gotten harder since March. Kia’s September sales report shows 835 EV6 sales for the month against 2,116 a year earlier, and 6,264 for the year against 11,077. The only GT-badged electric Kia with a US price for 2027 is now the EV3 GT, a 288 hp all-wheel-drive model at $45,890 that arrived on October 1.
The HyundaiHQ Take
The GT was the car that made people take the EV6 seriously, and losing it for a second year leaves the lineup without a reason to visit a Kia store on a Saturday for fun. The math is not hard to follow, though. A $64,000 import facing a 25 percent tariff was never going to sell in volume while the base car loses 43 percent of its buyers, and Kia would rather spend its EV marketing on a $30,000 EV3 than on a halo that moved a few hundred units a month at best. The fix is the one Motor1 suggested in March: build the GT in Georgia alongside the other six trims. Until Kia commits to that, "delayed until further notice" is going to read as "discontinued" to anyone shopping for a 600-horsepower hatchback.
