The Genesis G70 Loses Its V6 for 2027
The 2027 Genesis G70 will be sold only with the 2.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder, which ends the twin-turbo 3.3-liter V6 that gave the compact sedan its sports-sedan credentials since it arrived for 2019.
The 2027 Genesis G70 will be sold only with the 2.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder, which ends the twin-turbo 3.3-liter V6 that gave the compact sedan its sports-sedan credentials since it arrived for 2019.
The V6 is not the only thing going. The adaptive electronically controlled suspension that came with the Prestige Graphite trim is dropped, every 2027 G70 gets a manual trunk lid instead of the optional power trunk, and three colors, Kawah Blue, Cavendish Red and Vatna Gray, are gone. In exchange, the lineup is reorganized around the four-cylinder with new Sport Advanced trims, a wireless phone charger becomes standard on every car, and the top Prestige Graphite model costs thousands less than the V6 version it replaces.
Genesis laid out the changes in a 2027 model year summary on its US newsroom, which describes the G70 as a carryover model with a single engine. The 2026 lineup split between 2.5T RWD, AWD, Prestige RWD and Prestige AWD models and four V6 cars, the 3.3T Sport Prestige and Prestige Graphite in rear- and all-wheel drive. For 2027 the eight trims become seven, all four-cylinder, and the Prestige Graphite survives only as an all-wheel-drive car.
| 2027 G70 trim | MSRP |
|---|---|
| 2.5T RWD | $43,900 |
| 2.5T AWD | $45,800 |
| 2.5T Sport Advanced RWD | $47,250 |
| 2.5T Sport Advanced AWD | $49,250 |
| Sport Prestige RWD | $50,800 |
| Sport Prestige AWD | $52,800 |
| 2.5T Prestige Graphite AWD | $53,800 |
Destination is $1,445. The Prestige Graphite comparison shows what the V6 was worth on the sticker: Genesis launched that trim for 2026 at $56,900 in rear-drive form and $58,900 with all-wheel drive, with the 3.3-liter V6, the lowered sport suspension and a microfiber suede headliner. The 2027 Prestige Graphite AWD is $5,100 cheaper, but it trades the V6 for the four-cylinder, the adaptive dampers for a fixed setup, the suede headliner for cloth and the power trunk for a manual one. Its Ultramarine Blue Nappa leather interior and dark-chrome exterior details stay.

The new Sport Advanced trims pick up the dark chrome grille, sport aluminum trim, alloy pedals and sport leather that the old 2.5T Prestige used to carry, and the Fog Gray interior that was limited to V6 cars opens up to the Sport Advanced and Sport Prestige. The beige interior is now restricted to the two base trims. Genesis also deletes the rear badging that spelled out the engine and drivetrain on every 2027 model, so nothing on the trunk will say 2.5T.
The G70’s 2.5-liter turbo four is the same engine family Genesis rates at 300 horsepower in the GV70. The timing is awkward, because the car is selling better than it has in years: TopSpeed reported on October 24 that G70 sales nearly doubled in September to 1,711 from 858 a year earlier, citing Genesis data. The car’s closest rival is the Lexus IS, which also lives on an aging platform and has also found new buyers as the German brands have moved their small sedans upmarket.
The HyundaiHQ Take
Dropping the V6 turns the G70 from a cut-price BMW M340i alternative into a cut-price 330i alternative, and that may be the right call for a car whose buyers are clearly chasing value rather than horsepower. Still, Genesis built its enthusiast credibility on this sedan, and a $53,800 Prestige Graphite with a four-cylinder, cloth headliner and manual trunk is a thinner proposition than the car it replaces. The G70 is winning on price right now, so the real test is whether Genesis holds these numbers once the V6 inventory is gone.
