17 Hyundai Venues and Elantras Recalled for Lug Nuts Tightened by Hand
Hyundai Motor America is recalling 17 of its 2026 Venue, Elantra, Elantra Hybrid and Elantra N models because their wheel lug nuts may work loose on the road.
Hyundai Motor America is recalling 17 of its 2026 Venue, Elantra, Elantra Hybrid and Elantra N models because their wheel lug nuts may work loose on the road. The nuts were tightened by hand during a two-week stretch at the Ulsan plant in South Korea.
The cars were built between August 10 and August 27, 2026, while the wheel-tightening tooling at Ulsan was being modified and workers used a temporary manual torque process in its place. That process ended on September 16, and Hyundai Motor Company told its North America Safety Office about the problem on September 22. A torque survey of the cars run from September 25 to October 8 found some with lug nuts below specification, and Hyundai decided on the recall on October 13. It is not aware of any incidents, crashes or injuries in the US, and it estimates that about 5 percent of the 17 cars have the defect.

The recall report lists eight Venues, four Elantras, four Elantra Hybrids and one Elantra N, all built in South Korea for the US market. Autoevolution first reported the recall on October 25 and noted that the affected VINs start with the letter K, which marks Korean production. Hyundai filed it one day after a separate recall of 24 Elantras and Tucson Hybrids whose front strut bolts may also be loose, a problem that likewise came out of Ulsan.
The defect: wheel lug nuts may be insufficiently tightened and can loosen while driving, causing noise and vibration or, in rare cases, letting the wheel come off.
The hazards: a detached wheel can cause a loss of control or become a road hazard for other drivers, increasing the risk of a crash.
Components: wheel hub nut assembly, part number 52950-14140, supplied by Samjin Nut
Affected vehicles: 2026 Hyundai Venue (8 cars), Elantra (4), Elantra Hybrid (4) and Elantra N (1)
Number of vehicles affected: 17
The fix: dealers will inspect and retighten every wheel lug nut and replace the hub bearing assembly if it has been damaged, free of charge. Hyundai will reimburse owners who already paid for the repair.
